Garlic chives (Allium tuberosum), also known as Chinese chives, are a perennial herb distinct from common chives due to their flat, strap-like leaves and a pronounced, yet milder, garlic flavour. Widely popular in East Asian cuisine, every part of the plant is edible, from the leaves and flower stalks to the delicate white blossoms. They are a versatile culinary ingredient, frequently used in stir-fries, dumplings, omelettes, and soups, and can also be added fresh to salads, compound butters, and as a garnish.
