Rocket Wild

Wild rocket (Diplotaxis tenuifolia), often called 'perennial wall rocket', is a more intensely flavoured cousin to common salad rocket, distinguished by its deeply lobed, slender leaves and a robust, pungent, nutty, and distinctly peppery taste that is far stronger and more complex. Unlike its annual counterpart, wild rocket is a hardy perennial, making it a reliable and long-lasting addition to South African gardens. Its assertive flavour makes it ideal for use where a powerful kick is desired: it excels in mixed green salads, particularly alongside richer ingredients, and is fantastic scattered over pizzas and warm pasta dishes immediately after cooking. It also makes a wonderfully piquant pesto and can stand up well to grilling or light sautéing.
